3rd October 2008 CICU

Friday 3rd October 2008 - I slept quite well again last night but was sick twice because of some of my medicines. They aren't very nice and they make me feel yukky sometimes. I don't like being sick but feel better when I have been and usually smile at mummy and daddy to let them know I've finished and feel a bit better but they're not here at night time as there are no beds for them to stay, so I save my smiles for when they arrive in the morning.

When they came today it was very early. Mummy said it was because daddy woke her up at 6:15am and put on his laptop which played some music. Daddy told mummy to go back to sleep but they both wanted to come and see me so they both got up. I smiled lots when they came in and tried to tell them my tummy had been hurting during the night but luckily my nurse explained it all to them.

She told them that 2 of my medicines in particular can make me sick. One is a sodium based medicine and the other is to make sure my mouth doesn't get any nasty bugs. My nurses put the salty one down one of the tubes in my nose and the Nystatin is put on a sponge and rubbed around my mouth. This sometimes makes me gag and isn't very nice and the salty one makes lots of children feel sicky after they've had it.

When the nurse had finished talking to mummy and daddy we all played lots of games and even read some books. Daddy tried reading one to me but I didn't like the voices so I frowned at him but mummy made me chuckle by saying "Woof" every time the book fell on my head (very gently of course!). I forgave daddy when he played the silly game of letting the pink bunny blanket fall of his head. That really is funny but I guess you have to be here to understand!

A man came in again and said he had more letters for me so mummy and daddy opened them. I got a lovely pink pair of slippers for when I'm bigger from Maddison, Abbey & Ian  and an Upsy Daisy doll from Ellen Grace Jewson and her mummy Rachel from BabyExpert and lots of cards from, Shona, Mark, Leah, Brodie and Blaine, then one from Oliver and his mummy Jo-Jo and one from Hollie too so thank you to them!

Mummy and daddy went out to have some lunch and I tried to have some sleep but I only managed to sleep for 20 minutes. I am tired but I don't like sleeping too much so try to stay awake for as long as I can. When they came back they asked to speak to a doctor to ask when I can be moved back to our local hospital where I was born. Then they played more with me and put In The Night Garden on again. Me and daddy watched some of it but then I was sick again and, after mummy and daddy had changed me, I had a little sleep again.

Mummy and daddy went out again for a little while and when they came back I was wide awake again and ready to play! They put me in my chair and we played with a nice little toy that rattles when you shake it. I've tried eating it loads of times but it won't fit in my mouth so I just suck on it.

The doctor came in to speak to mummy and daddy and they asked when I might be able to go back to Norfolk. My doctor explained that they need to get my new medicine, Warfarin, right before I can go anywhere but it is unfortunately taking longer than expected because of my anti-biotic, called Vancomycin, that is interfering with my Warfarin levels. My doctor said that until they get this right I will have to stay in London but not necessarily on CICU. She also said she thinks it will take at least 2-3 weeks before they have it sorted out.

When my doctor left daddy tried to give me some Pasta Bolognese but, because I'd just had some medicine, I was sick straight away. Mummy says we will try again tomorrow and make sure they give me something to eat before I have all my medicines. I have been having lots of milk through the tube in my nose but I still wanted to eat some dinner so I hope I can tomorrow. Daddy said he got me some chocolate pudding too so I can't wait to wear, I mean, eat it!!!

I am going to try to get some sleep now as I haven't slept much today and I need to get as much rest as I can.
