Monday 20th October 2008 - After 6 long weeks, 2 of my antibiotics were finally stopped today! I have now been in hospital for 50 days so I was hoping we could celebrate by doing something special... my nurse didn't disappoint!
When my doctors came in to see me they confirmed to mummy and daddy that 2 of my antibiotics were being stopped and my 3rd would be finishing on Wednesday. They said that once I was off my 3rd antibiotic my warfarin levels should stabilise enough for them to start planning for all of us to finally go home! Then he asked if mummy and daddy would like to take me out for a couple of hours in my pushchair... mummy and daddy didn't need to be asked twice!
My nurse helped mummy and daddy attach my IV syringe to the back of my pushchair and we went outside properly for the first time in 50 days. Mummy and daddy took me for a walk in the 'fresh' air (well this is London!) and I saw some big red buses and lots and lots of people who all smiled at me when they saw me (they're very friendly down here!). Then we walked back to the hospital and mummy and daddy took me to see some of their friends who work at the hospital. They were very happy to see me as they'd heard lots about me but never met me before. We had to wait for a little while to see them though so afterwards mummy and daddy got a drink before we all came back to my room. Mummy put me back in my cot and I fell asleep very quickly because the 'fresh' air had worn me out!
Another side effect of me going outside was that it made me much hungrier than I have been for ages! I had some banana delight for lunch, then half a jar of chicken and rice for tea. I then had all my milk through my tube in my nose and wasn't sick all day again. I didn't sleep much this afternoon though so was getting tired when my auntie Cassie and cousin Cain came to see me.
While they were here I had some more milk through my tube but I was still really hungry afterwards and cried while daddy got some rice pudding ready for me. He took a little while sorting it out though because he couldn't work the microwave in the kitchen to warm it up for me as it had been in the fridge since yesterday! I was patient though and ate a little bit when he finally brought it in for me.
Now that I've been allowed out I think mummy and daddy might take me out more often as we all really liked getting out of my room together. They said they'll take me to the park to see some birds that don't fly far but walk up to you for food and are really fat, as long as the weather isn't too bad. They sound interesting so I hope I can see them tomorrow.
I had a big box with a big fluffy teddy, a noisy camera that lights up and some cards from mummy's friends Cheryl, Erin and family and her work friends too from Bounty this afternoon. I loved the teddy and smiled lots and cuddled him when daddy showed him to me. The noisy camera is good too and I've worked out how to make it light up by rubbing the button on my gums. I also had another parcel from nanny Maureen which had some clothes and bibs in it for me.
Hopefully we will all be home within the next week or so which will be great as I'm really missing my big brother and my nanny and my bedroom and my big TV and my bouncer and my cot and my bath-times and lots and lots of other things we all did before I became unwell again.
I'm still not asleep and am watching daddy write my daily update while mummy is playing with me and trying to get me to go to sleep. Problem is I'm now full of energy so I just want to play!!! I'll go to sleep soon though so I can wake up tomorrow and go out to see the fat birds in the park.
